Holster & Sheath Tooling Leather, Veg Tanned, 5 Pounds of Large 7-9oz Pieces(2.75mm-3.75mm), Havanna Brown, Great for Crafting & General Leatherwork

Nice usable pieces of leather for making knife sheaths. I was a bit nervous thinking I was going to get a bunch of useless scraps but didn't. They were all large usable bits of leather the will work for my projects. My disappointment is in how the roll up the leather and wrap it in packing tape. The tape was difficult to remove and left bits of glue and tape on the leather. Maybe consider wrapping the roll in stretch wrap or something instead of tape? I would easily give 5 stars if it wasn't for the mess made by the tape.

I'm new to working with leather, so I'm not an experienced judge of quality. That said, this leathers seems to be really good. About a medium thickness and reasonably stiff -- good to use for projects I have in mind like knife sheaths and small pouches. Love the deep brown color, too (I don't want to mess with doing my own dye work just yet).I weighed the package when it arrived -- was almost exactly 5 lbs. It contained 3 large pieces (I can get a *lot* of projects out of this), and they were rolled with the flesh side on the outside of the roll. The roll was secured with what looked like clear packing tape; but since the tape was on the flesh side of the leather, it came right off with no residue and no marking up of the grain side.

I had no expectations in buying this, as I’m a newbie and just needed some leather to practice on.The package was slightly heavier than 5#, as I was unable to weigh it on either of the 5# scales I had available.The leather is thicker than what I’ve worked with, so that will be a good experience. (And I’ll get skiving practice. ) The pieces are very long. There is. 15” ruler in the photo for scale and the underlying table is about 5’ long.Luckily I’m still in the “small project” phase, so I’ll be able to make use of the narrow cuts.Definitely worth it depending on your intended use.

Great weight on this leather. Very close to 5lbs according to my scale. Large areas! I’ll be able to make a lot of cool stuff with this!!

**UPDATE 5/24/2020** I am increasing my rating to 4-stars after completing 4 projects with this leather. While I am still disappointed in the large unusable portions of this product, I really like the projects that I have been able to complete: a large sheath for garden shears, an inside-the-belt holster, and two outside-the-belt holsters. And there’s enough material left for maybe 4 more projects of similar size.This was my first ever leather purchase to start out my new leathercraft hobby. I figured I'd go with scrap pieces to begin some simple projects like knife sheaths and wallets. There are scrapes, indentations, and blemishes throughout but are tolerable for beginner/learning projects. The thickness is consistent at 1/8" (3mm or 7-8oz) and length vary from 4 feet to about 6 feet. The width on average is 7". What's disappointing about this leather is the large areas of unusable pieces such as the one pictured with large holes and damage. The supplier should have cut this section out and not included it in the weight. You'll also notice a long thin piece of uneven width 1-1.5" and 15" long that is mostly unusable as well. Overall, I'll get a handful of small experimental projects and practice out of this but at over $11 per pound, I could easily have gone with a shoulder veg-tanned piece from Tandy (up to 3.6mm, 9-10 sf) for 25% less.

This leather is heavy duty and perfect for knife cases. Not that flimsy,decorator stuff. Color is really nice but that can be changed. I wanted leather that would stand the test of time and protect my knives and this is it. Big, usable pieces and very little waste. Judging other providers pricing I think Outfitters Supply is very fare particularly considering this quality leather and the package came a day early. I'll buy more from these folks as the need arises.

Excellent! All Large pieces, very thick, and perfect for making knife sheaths, belts, and holsters...etc. Extremely satisfied! My son is learning knife-making and leather working, and he was very excited to get this generous quantity of great leather. Will most likely buy again once he goes through it!

I'm an amateur knife maker; this leather works fantastic for making sheaths as mentioned in their Amazon description. I asked help in leather crafting from who knows the ropes and found out of all the leather I have none of it was suitable for making holsters for six shooter or for making knife sheaths. This leather has the perfect thickness and rigidity and is just perfect. I'm sure it has many other uses as well, thank you outfitter supply.

2nd time purchasing, excellent quality leather, roughly 1/8th thick that I use for sheaths for my knives. In regards to the last review, my leather the first time came taped that way, but they listened to the customer and this time came rolled in a bag and taped shut, therefore eliminating any sticky glue, etc. Good job guys, keep it up, i'll be back for more.👌
