This works great.
Easy to set-up and use. Water tastes great. Chlorine is gone! This will also be good for backup water purification if you go camping in a remote, car accessible, area.2/9/2025: Purchased this in 2016 and have used it every day since then. The only time I had a problem was when I let the water sit in the bottom of the top portion for about 3 days and when I went to add more water, I could smell and 'oldness' to it. This cleared up as soon as I cleaned the filters. I wash the filters about every couple months with a dedicated toothbrush. Sometimes I will use just a touch of bleach on the rubber gasket and scrub real well, then rinse well. The gasket will get slimy, which is normal because it sits in the water. Just be sure to wash everything regularly. Other than cleaning, this is so easy to make sure you have good water. There are only 2 in the house, so the demand is not super high. I will replenish the every day, sometimes twice a day if more water gets used. The initial cost out ways the cost of bottled water. I did purchase a metal spigot, as the plastic one is very flimsy. There are many out there, so take your pick. Also, if we are to be gone more that 3 days, I clean everything and let it dry/sit out until we return. If you don't do this, you will have to clean it when you get home before you can add new water. I am very happy with this purchase and recommend it to other people.

3.5 years and counting
We have been using this for our drinking water for 3.5 years. No problems. Works great. I replaced the spigot only because I wanted something metal and a little sturdier. Other than that, we have loved it.

Great water filter, it just needs handles!
Received this unit yesterday and set it up immediately. Set up was easy and straight forward. I filled it up as instructed and let the water run through the filters for a couple of hours. Discarded this water and refilled it again before bed. Seven hours later when I awoke the water had mostly all drained into the lower chamber. The water tastes fine and I couldn't taste a chlorine taste common to the tap water here in Southern California. So why only three stars? It took about 3 weeks to receive it from England. I thought this company was American? Not a big issue but it would have been nicer having it sooner. Second, as some other reviews on here state the spigot is cheaply made and I can see if you move this thing around a lot how it could easily be broken. Last, to fill the top with water I have to remove it and place it in the sink. When full I have to hold it by the sides and carefully carry it over to the lower section across my kitchen. Not the easiest task. This top section needs handles!!! Just before I wrote this review I saw a similar model just a different brand that had, you guessed it...handles!. It was called "aquarain 202". If I had known I may have bought that one just for the fact that it has handles. All and all I am pleased with this model and I look forward to getting years of use out of it. I just think there should be handles on the top tank.

Water tastes cleaner, but it leaks
I'm not sure about this contraption. If the filter is so great and made so well, then why is the rest of the product not made well? The valve is plastic and it drip leaks. We keep a towel and a glass under it to prevent a mess, but this shouldn't be an issue for something worth $300.You also have to be careful not to overfill it. If you fill the top reservoir and let it filter through to the bottom, you can't fill that top reservoir again until the bottom area is empty or it leaks out the middle. And there's no see-through of the wall in the bottom area to tell how full it is. You have to lift the entire top portion to look.

Well made water filter! Current information.
Many reviews contain conflicting information, so here is an update. The water system is 8.5 inches in diameter (width measured at the widest point on the base which is the black rubber) and about 20 inches tall. The upper container is drilled with holes for 2 candle filters only; for me this is a plus rather than having it drilled for 4 filters and having 2 holes plugged. It comes with 2 ceramic candle filters of 7 inches. This is make in the UK and the quality is exceptional. The stainless is beautiful. The minor assembly needed requires no tools and takes about 10 minutes; videos are on the Internet on the Doulton UK web site if needed. It takes about 4-5 hours to fill the lower cavity with 2 gallons of water approximately. The Doulton filters do not reduce total dissolved solids like a Zero Water filter. Where I live, our water is high in dissolved solids, so using a Zero Water filter is very expensive as the filters last for 8-10 gallons only which makes them not very economical. The filters that come with the Doulton filter out chlorine, pathogens and organic matter.

cheap parts
it's a nice filter. as good as the more expensive ones with 'black' filter elements. It's really fast ...as drip filters can be. on a two person house you only have to fill the top once every other day.Only things i'd improve: the small faucet. it's not practical, looks cheap. And the price. Why those things are so expensive in the US?!dimensions are 19" high, 8" diameter.the model is GSS2, more specs (go to douton usa dor com)UPDATE:i've been on a trip for a little more then a month after i ordered the filter. After returning, I used the filter for 2-3 weeks and it started leaking. The seller here simple ignored all my contacts. The manufacturer replied the first email just to say that they are not affiliated with any reseller.the plastic in the spigot simply ripped away from the side-way force of turning the lever. the plastic had bubbles in it. really awful workmanship.i'm now giving up on contacting the seller or manufacturer and am going to buy a replacement spigot.Avoid. Pay a little more for another brand.A GOOD UPDATE now:found the perfect replacement faucet for this.[...]and after the good one, A BAD UPDATE:they wrote me an email asking to improve the rating here in exchange for a new faucet..... That's low. Very low.
