Thanks for reaching out! You can use any type of mattress with a Murphy bed so long as it's 12 inches or thinner. If you use too thick of a mattress, you won’t be able to fold the bed up properly and keep it stored against the wall. Mattress slumping can occur with innerspring beds and hybrid beds, so we suggest using a foam mattress with this bed frame.

The Serta Perfect Sleeper 10 Inch Gel Memory Foam mattress can be used with a variety of frames depending on your design preference.

Broadly speaking, you'll want to use a box spring, platform, or slatted-style frame. For the best support when using a slatted frame, we recommend spaces between slats not be more than 2" apart.

We understand that many frames do have slats that are further apart than two inches. In these cases, we recommend adding a box spring or solid platform on top of any open slatted mattress support system. Hardboard, plywood, particleboard, or similar material, inserted between the mattress and the slatted platform, supporting the entire surface of the mattress will provide appropriate support.

Our mattresses are also compatible with adjustable frames; we just recommend keeping the bed in the flat position when not in use.
